about

Jordan: This song was basically written to serve as an intro for the whole EP. With the EP's theme being that of the darker and shadier side of my life previously, I feel like Aaron and I absolutely nail the tone for the rest of the piece. And that's one of the things I really appreciate about this release. The whole project strays away from my somewhat typical writing style. I didn't go into it thinking, "Okay, here I go writing another song for this rap album". I wrote this whole thing with the thought of, "I want to talk about a period in my life, but I want it to actually be artistic instead of just shitting out songs about it." It has its own flow from one segment to the next, and I look at is as a whole continuous piece of art, and I'm super proud of it. One of my favorite tracks on the whole thing, as an artist or a listener.

Default: I remember when I first heard this beat and I was hoping Jordan would ask me to be on it. It's so bare bones and cold it sounds like some Liquid Swords shit. And when I heard the verse he laid I knew I could follow up to it a different way without sounding repetitive and shit. It also shows people the faster side of my style. I chop it up for a little bit on here and it just fits the intensity of the song, like a constant elevation. Also, word up to the man Fullhart for shooting the single art for this song as well as the cover of the whole EP, he did an amazing job. This song kicks the EP off right with the theme set in place and an absolute appetite on the mic.

lyrics

[Verse One: Jordan Fox]
My life and I'm my own author
Had to cut a few off my roster
Thin 'em out, and the herd might prosper
Steady dippin' on third by poplar
Small town, man they all so petty
No opportunity to get yo fetty
All the homies on gas by the railroad,
I'm on a track too, but the folks don't get me.
Get a good thing going and they all talk shit
Ever had a past? No more, that's it.
Old folks say it's always been like that,
Leave or you stuck in a state line trap
Where the skies stay gray for the sake of cats
Who don't care one bit, man they fake as wax.
Work all day just to break your back,
I face the facts,
I face my back, and homie all I see is
Snakes

[Verse Two: Default]
My life in a movie reel
Pan down on my town where I grew for real
Everyone lack funds, gotta loot and steal,
While they all get wild off booze and pills
I need a kick for this Nolan flick,
Interstellar with the rhyme, but my soul is sick
No telling what they'll do for the dopest chick or coldest whip,
They co-sign cobra spit
That's venom I pen a pivotal piece now,
Peace out, the homies bringing me heat now,
Reach out with fangs to bite
Sink 'em in there deep, try'na drain the life
From the page I write, so say goodnight
Fake shit y'all bring got me signing off
Real one knows:
Two heads grow back every time you cut the head from the Hydra off
Y'all Snakes
